In this video, Dr. Berg discussed if do the type of carbs matter on a ketogenic diet plan. And the answer is, absolutely YES. What is more important is to do the low glycemic carbs. The GI or glycemic index is a scale of all these carbohydrates and the effect that it has on blood sugars – the higher number spike the blood sugar more than the lower numbers.

It does matter the quality or the type of carbs that you consume on a ketogenic diet plan because if you are consuming even smaller amounts of carbs but they have a stronger effect on blood sugars, it will not only throw up your blood sugars and prevent you from staying in ketosis but in the next day you’re going to be starving for carbs.

  12. Oh yes. Thats so true! I used to eat a lot of ricepuffs (ricewaffles) and i thought that i am doing somthing good to me, cause oft low calories. But i was craving for food and for lots more ricewaffles the whole day! AND I WASNT LOOSING ANY WEIGHT!!!
    Im so glad, to find out about low carb diet! Now i dont long for carbs any more! Acctually i dont have any binge eating attacks ans more!
    I lost 5 kilos in 4 weeks. Im on the very beginning, but im feeling so much better since eating no more carbs!

  14. This question does not relate to the video but I'd really like an answer if possible. I started the ketogenic diet about 3 weeks ago and also purchased the keto kit which i started about 3 days ago. I'm a little concerned because I am a former alcoholic. I have not had a drink in two years now but I am also obese and Type 2 Diabetic. I have a fatty liver, which I may have had due to the obesity even before I became an alcoholic. Also I had an adrenal adenoma last year and had my adrenal gland removed to get rid of the tumour. Because ketones run through the liver and mine I'm sure must have been damaged during my years of alcoholism, is it dangerous for me to do the ketogenic diet? I'm mainly concerned about my liver. Other than being fatty, my liver enzymes have always showed up normal on blood tests.

  19. I find it helpful to think of the 'effective' carbs as a kind of price for other things, too. For example, 20 grams of pure sugar will get you, well, 20 grams of sugar. 50 grams of effective carbs as fruits or veggies will get you a whole host of other things, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, etc.

  20. Dr berg can u please explain how to do keto with pre diabeties and type 2 diabeties, im worried that the regular keto diet might have fatty meats like sausage that have alot of sugar, and i know i cant consume sugar and most fat meats on keto have sugar
